Welcome to Carlisle Yoga School.
We offer Yoga Retreats and Yoga Teacher Training Weekends at the beautiful Dacre Hall in Lanercost.
Owned and directed by Janet Richards, founding teacher of Carlisle Yoga and The Yoga Studio Carlisle.
She focuses on delivering quality Yoga Teacher Training Courses and Yoga Retreats specialising in the functional and stress relieving aspects of yoga, pranayama and meditation.
We are privileged to use Dacre Hall in Lanercost as the venue for all of our trainings. Dacre Hall is reputed to be the oldest village hall in England and forms part of the 12th Century Lanercost Priory, set in the beautiful Irthing valley, just 2 miles from Brampton and Hadrian’s Wall.
Janet did not discover yoga until she was 46 years of age.
After having spent over 27 years working in the public sector she was suffering from stress and anxiety and turned to yoga as an act of desperation.
After starting to practice yoga she started to feel stronger both physically and mentally.
She completed her 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training Course in India with Sonja Appel of Sushumna Yoga in 2013. She has continued to develop her physical and theoretical understanding of yoga by training in person with Bernie Clark, Paul Grilley, Karen Kirkness, Rebecca Shepherd and Lucy Crawford Scott. She has completed an additional 200 hours of Yin Yoga Teacher Training.
She founded Carlisle Yoga and The Yoga Studio Carlisle, which was recognised as one of the top 25 yoga studios in the UK by Women’s Health Magazine and top 30 yoga studios in the UK by Origym in 2018.
She takes a functional approach to teaching yoga and understands that everyone will find limitations in their practice as a result of their physical shape. This makes her teachings accessible to everyone.
